This often happens when there is a break, cut, or wound on the skin. It can also happen when your immune system is weakened because of another disease or medical treatment.

Some skin infections cover a small area on the top of the skin. Other infections can go deep into the skin or spread to a larger area.

The symptoms of a skin infection also vary depending on the type. Common symptoms include redness of the skin and a rash. You may also experience other symptoms, such as itching, pain, and tenderness
